Well, let me explain a bit here:

This is not the theme song from the "Acme School Of Stuff" TV show that was Written, Produced, and Starring David Stringer.

So, what is it? Apparently, it's a new composition from yours truely!

It started out as an attempt to do "Stuff Like That There", from the motion picture, 'For The Boys', a big band/swing piece sung by Bette Midler and a lot of fun to listen to.

Well, it started out that way, at least. What happened was that while working out the bass line, I couldn't keep the melody in my head. Some other melody kept creeping in and eventually took over that bit of gray matter that I tend to consider my brain.

This drove me nuts, as I didn't know where it had come from. After adding in a few harmony parts that just 'felt' right, I began to remember other bits. Then, in the wee hours of one morning, it hit me:

It was the basic melody from an old TV show I used to catch on PBS in the wee hours of the morning. The "Acme School of Stuff" was a series of 26 1/2 hour shows about, well, stuff. From traffic lights to airplanes and everything else (This is just one of many shows made by David Stringer).

I searched on Google for 'Acme School of Stuff' which came back with hundreds of results, mostly for teacher resources. But there, hiding amongst many listings of reviews, was one that seemed out of place amongst the others. Just one word: "Resume".

Hmm...

A click later and I was looking at the website of the show's star, producer, and writer: www.davidstringer.ca. I looked through his site, hoping to find some media from his shows, but, alas, didn't. Still, it was great to see that he's still out there, and still has his great, dead-pan sense of humor (that's what made his shows so much fun to watch!).

Once I had my song good enough to call complete, I decided to contact him, and eventually sent him a copy of my work. David said he had commissioned the original 'Acme' theme for his show from Harry Forbes, and after hearing my version, David told me that I had a 'whole new song'. The original "Acme" theme had been a MIDI song, but unfortunately it doesn't exsist anymore.

Was I that far off? Did this come from somewhere else? In a nutshell, yes. The "Acme" theme and my "Not Acme" song are indeed very different. David sent me an audio file of the original theme for me to listen to. The first thing I did was create a MIDI file of the actual "Acme" theme so I could compare the parts. Hmm...

Well, I was right, in a way. The "Acme" theme did leak into my brain as I had suspected, but the cobwebs and old junk in there must've got together for their own jam session. What came out was this completely new song (as far as David's concerned), which has just barely a hint of the original.

In time, I hope to be able to put the actual "Acme School of Stuff" theme up on my site, as it's a very catchy tune and a lot of fun.

Either way, I hope you enjoy this "Not the Acme School Of Stuff" song as much as I do.
